Viking Campaign

Campaign Description

Viking
Yggdrasil - The World Tree

Introduction

Viking Vessel

If you are going to run an epic fantasy adventure, why not use an already established myth?  The tales of the Norse Gods and Giants, are the oldest recorded stories of our world.  The stories impressions, silently exist throughout our society today.  They are part of our calender: Wednesday (Wodens Day), Thursday (Thors Day), Friday (Frida Day).  They have inspired Marvel Comics and J.R.R. Tolkien to write some great tales.

Most of this world is inspired from the Nordic Mythos, The Prose Edda, "D'Aulaires Book of Norse Myths", Volsung Saga, and the Nibelungenlied.

Other inspirations include:  The History Channel  show Vikings

    Movies:

D'Aullaires Norse Mythos

The Nordic Gods Portfolios and Domains are out of the Deities and Demigods D&D 3.0 book, adapted to the Pathfinder RPG.

The Purpose (Mission)

Viking Society

Viking  society is an interesting mechanism.  They are actually quite structured, yet they raid and wreak havoc on others.  Decisions of guilt, were held by jury, depending on the crime, the Jarl would be the deciding judge.  Criminals could be executed, or exiled from the colony to survive on their own.   After being exiled, they could also be pursued by an enemy, without repercussions to the pursuant.  Because they no longer belong to their tribe.  Disputes were frequently resolved by duals.  Most of the time, might meant right (unfortunately).  Most duals were ceased as soon as any blood hit the ground.  They were taught to have strong community and to help each other out.  Never let the grass grow to the path of your neighbor.  Each had a trade, usually necessitive to its colony.  Women that wanted to accompany the men on raids/battles, were trained as shield maidens, and were heard to be as vicious as any.  Free men/women had the right to participate.  The Vikings frequently took servants from their raids, these were not free people.  They were indentured to serve, in trade for their life.

Party Balance

Running a little light in the Viking department (Fighter, Barbarian (Viking), Bloodrager, Skald, etc.);  This party has managed to stay alive, and follow the storyline and most of the arcs.  Other sources of damage are finally coming into play.  This makes me happy!
